I write this post in Eastern Canada when in two days we are to receive another 35-40 cm’s of snow and have had over 12 feet fall this season already with spring so close yet so far away at the same time. It reminds me of when I lived even further east in Cape Breton and getting up either on a school morning or a little later on the weekend to find mom in the kitchen waiting for us to settle at the table and prepare our breakfast. At the time, she always had shredded wheat on-hand which would be placed in a bowl and the addition of some warm milk poured over top with a teaspoon of brown sugar to taste. It was surely something that would take us through our morning of school or play and with so many health benefits.
I can’t say why but it is something I totally got away from and forgotten until my Kellogger package arrived and asked my to try it hot with Kellogg’s Mini-Wheats! Why didn’t I think of this sooner, with the different variations of Mini-Wheats available as well as milk/soy flavours, adding; nuts, fruit or maybe even a little dark chocolate it seems your choices are almost endless.
I personally am a maple fan and if you like you can try the recipe below for yourself. Not a maple fan? Check out www.MiniWheats.ca for more recipes and inspiration for your bowl or make it your own and by all means please share anything new that you have personally come up with, I’d love to hear or even tag us on instagram in a pic….yumm.
